It's my own personal vanity web site. Isn't it awesome?

It all started as a way to share pictures with friends and family. It's evolved into something where people can have a discussion over news/hijinks/whatever, and hopefully have a laugh. It's all in fun.

Putting up photos progressed to adding a couple links on the front page from time to time. That evolved into writing software to add the links and stories. That evolved into full Rants. Then came the Gallery software that runs the photo galleries. That brought on photo comments and search functions. Then I got into Movable Type, which brought better updates and Comments, and then I decided Movable Type just wasn't doing it, so I wrote my own software.

I actually do have a job. I don't spend as much time on it as you would think (or maybe I spend way more time than you would think). Photo galleries take about a half hour to do, depending on size and wether or not I can 'bring the funny'. Link posting takes about 20 seconds. Most of my links now are sent by other people via AIM or e-mail, so it's pretty easy.

A lot of the links I find on my own, I actually create the entry at night and then use a program to disperse them throughout the day. I read a lot of news/link compendium sites - stuff like Slashdot, Fark, Boing Boing, CNN, AP, Metafilter, etc. I also read a lot of car/snowboard/junk sites. The rest people just send to me. Lord knows where they find them.

I'm hosted on a Linux server at 1and1 hosting, who suck ass. I recommend Burton Hosting, who are excellent. I use Gallery for managing all of my photos. I use my own custom php code for text updates and Comment handling.

No. In fact, it's preferable that you don't, especially if your name starts with 'J'. That's just something that's evolved over time. Feel free to use whatever name you want. Just don't post spam or other bs. I log IPs and I will ban.

Believe it or not, yes. Stats vary, but there's a little colored cube in the bottom left of the front page that links to a stats site I use. I also get backend stats, which are pretty entertaining.

Who knows? Most of the additions/improvements have been at the suggestion of others. I'll probably implement some sort of login scheme at some point. I'd like to make the whole site valid html and use CSS for layout. I'd also like to do a redesign, but I have all the visual skill of a donkey, so if you think you can help, drop me a line.
